A Dish of Apricots by Ian Thomson

A Dish of Apricots

has RECEIVED a

Chill with a Book READERS’ Award

Philip Williams is the Catastrophe Kid. If anything can go wrong in his life, it will. Calamity follows calamity and he begins to believe that his existence is ruled by a malevolent star. He remains buoyant in the face of adversity until, that is, he finds himself on a collision course with the rogue-star itself. Philip’s quest for love and freedom takes him from the Welsh seaside, through turmoil in London, to what seems to be a haven in Provence. “Yet again, Thomson’s prose is full of sunshine and shadows - funny and poignant in equal measure.”

  1. This is a serious - but amusing - novel with interest far beyond gay readership. It is a book about love, relationships, trust and other timeless themes. The gay content is minimal, and to some extent, irrelevant. It's the progress of a life that veers from affluence to destitution and back. Great observations, good laughs and very moving moments (that are never bathetic) along with Thomson's excellent writing make this a book to spend time with. - Michael Reidy
